Captain Henry Arnold “Larry” Laird, 88, of Attapulgus, GA, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Hollywood, FL.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Grubbs officiating. Interment will follow at Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery with Ed White, Loren Johnson, Charles Bennett, Jimmy Collins, Harold Kelley, and Lawson Chandler serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2011, prior to the funeral service. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com. Larry was born September 15, 1922 in Malabar, FL, the son of Maney Henry Laird and Julia Arnold Laird. He was a graduate of Melbourne High School and a pilot in the U. S. Navy, serving during World War II. He was a retired Captain with Pan Am Airlines, a member of the Christian Church of Atlanta, the V. F. W., and the Florida Live Steamers.
Survivors include his wife, Jean R. Laird of Attapulgus, GA; his daughter, Cindy Laird of Attapulgus, GA; his son, Marc Farner and his wife, Nancy, of Hollywood, FL; his grandchildren, Jo Colonna of Dania Beach, FL and Julia Woods of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and his great-grandchildren, Sophia Colonna and Christopher Colonna. He was preceded in death by his son, Rhett Laird.
